Keep My Mouth Shut

My work requires some after hours work to be done for clients at times and this particular one started at midnight. We didn’t complete the work until around 6 am. I didn’t go to sleep and went back into work but that night I went to bed around 7pm. About 8pm I got a call from dad. I almost didn’t answer, but decided I better. It was her and she told me that dad was admitted to the hospital with heart issues. She said she tried to call Crystal but she couldn’t get a hold of her. I immediately called Crystal but her phone was going to voicemail. I got a hold of her through my nephew. She said she was going to the hospital and I asked if I could ride with her. Due to lack of sleep I knew I shouldn’t have been driving. He was having chest pains and so they were monitoring him. He had already been scheduled out for an angiogram so we figured they would go ahead and do that but nothing would be done until the next day. He actually asked that we bring our medical power of attorney and we did. We had them scan it into his files as we left.

We were laughing because the doctor told dad that he couldn’t have a lot of carbs and she went and got him a sonic burger and Dr. Pepper, but she didn’t get him fries.

The next morning we went back to the hospital. Both of us had our laptops in hand in case we needed to work remotely. Knowing we would be sitting there awkwardly most of the day, Crystal and I texted back and forth throughout the day. As mentioned previously we talk and text a lot. A lot of small talk, tv watching, texting and some remote work happened while sitting in the room. Crystal brought some snacks and she was nicer than me because she offered her some. While we were waiting on them to come get dad for his angiogram he turned over going to try and sleep, so we decided to walk out so we didn’t disturb him. After we left the room we decided it was close enough to lunch that we would just run down and grab us something out of the cafeteria. After we ate we headed back to the room and found out that her son was coming up there.

When he arrived I kept my mouth shut. Due to some previous interactions I had with him, I really had nothing to say but Crystal made small talk. During his talking with dad and her we found out that he was called and came to the hospital while dad was in the ER. We weren’t called until they admitted him. This infuriated us.

The test came back fine and dad’s previous stint was still good, with no signs of a heart attack.

I’ll continue to hold my tongue and keep my mouth shut

Whatever it takes to keep the peace
